Franziska, Everyday

DSC01101
I read a lot of blogs and am constantly wishing I had all of the amazing pieces of clothing you ladies have. Unfortunately, I have a budget I (try to) stick to, so I generally just try to be inspired and recreate what you wear with items from my own closet rather than go out and buy a bunch of clothes every week. I say generally because once I saw this bag on Kendi, I needed it to be mine. I checked on it every few weeks, hoping it would go down in price. It did go down about $20 over Black Friday, but I still held off. Then two weeks ago when I was again telling someone about this bag, all bags happened to be 25% off, making it cheaper than it was on Black Friday...and I finally had to press buy. It took a little bit to get to me because I wanted a little monogram added, but it was definitely worth the wait.

To fund this purchase I sold this purse on eBay for the price I bought it for in the store. I know that I'll get a lot more wear out of this new purse as it works well for work now and will be great in the future (if I get into school). A smaller bright green purse just can't compete with a big leather tote.

Have you ever purchased something after seeing someone on a blog wearing it? Please tell me I'm not the only one.

  1. You aren't the only one. Lol. Being a fashion blogger myself, I always find myself wanting something that other bloggers post. My poor bank account. Lol. Just discovered your blog and I love it:)!

    1. Ugh, yes! Although blogging means I see a lot more I want, I also feel like I'm held accountable by blogging.

  2. I bought that buffalo plaid shirt from Old Navy after I saw you wearing it!

  3. I did! The first (and I think the only) thing I've bought directly through a blogger was this dress that Blair wore: http://atlantic-pacific.blogspot.com/2011/09/why-hello.html

Only, I didn't realize that she's short, and I am…not short. It hits like my upper thigh, so I have to figure out some way to make it a little longer.

    1. That dress is like 100% you. I wonder if you can't add a layer (of red?) underneath to make it longer? It's adorable!

  4. I agree that you made a good trade there - that tote looks just as cute (if not more) and is way more functional than the purse.

  5. Soooo it's funny because I fell in love with this tote on Kendi as well and kept stalking it. Unfortunately with Christmas shopping and life, there's not much money left for other things, but you better believe I want that purse every time I see it! Definitely a great investment, it's a beautiful bag that goes with EVERYTHING and will last you a long time :)

  6. You finally got your bag! I've seen you refer to it a few times :-)
I purchased a coat from H&M after seeing it on crazystylelove. She's in Canada, I'm in the UK but it was sat there online waiting for me to buy it! Fate.

  9. Yay, you got your bag! And yes, I've definitely purchased something after seeing it on a blogger, but I think you'll definitely get way more use out of your awesome new bag that I'll get out of my impulse buys!

  10. I've been eyeing this bag on Kendi's blog too!! I have definitely gone out and bought something after seeing it on a blog. A necklace here, a gingham old navy shirt there, some colored flats everywhere. Love this outfit, so happy about your bag, and hope you've had a wonderful week!

  11. you are def. not the only one. i have a rule. when i blog my purse (with my debit and credit cards) has to be upstairs. if i really want it then i have to go upstairs. the time it takes me to get upstairs i get to think if i really, really need or want the item. by the time i get upstairs i have made a decision which often leads to me coming downstairs empty handed.

but yeah, when i saw the bubble necklace that was def. one of the items i just had to have. good thing i got mine on eBay.

    gorgeous bag! def. worth it!

    1. that's such a good idea Faith! I should do that. I think I would feel so guilty by the time I get upstairs that I would know it wasn't right. I kind of use that as my rule for shopping now. If I feel guility, I won't be able to enjoy it.

  12. You finally got your precious! Hooray! Love the lavender and teal combined--I normally think of lavender as a "Spring" color, but this "winterizes" it so well.

  13. I've been lusting after that bag ever since I saw you can monogam it. I might have to wait until after the holidays though...

  14. I am addicted to those Target supersoft sweaters. They pill a bit, but nothing a pill razor can't fix. I find that blogging definitely makes me shop a lot - shopping is my favourite pastime. I just try to do things on a creative budget as much as I can and mix high end (bags, mostly) with items from everywhere from K-Mart to Charlotte Russe. I think that blogging definitely makes me lust after things more than I should and I have to remind myself that I have a very well-stocked closet already and the key is to remix :)

    1. I really need to get a pill razor. Growing up we had one of those pill remover machines - I should see if my mom still has it!

Shopping is also my favorite pasttime - too bad we are too far apart so that we can't do it together :( I definitely agree with the high end/low end mixing. I think many of my accessories (bags, watches, shoes) are my more expensive items.

  15. This bag is so perfect. I am definitely thinking I need a monogrammed leather tote now...and there goes my budget! :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ahh I love this bag - the monogram really puts it over the top! You have great patience to wait for the best price, it's hard to do but I am always pleased when I have the same success. =D

  17. Oh God, I've definitely done that - I'm actually currently wearing the Old Navy gray gingham flannel that I completely copied off of you, so... guilty as charged. I think that's one of the hardest things to get used to as a blogger, that you get involved in a community that's constantly featuring new and beautiful things, and it's so easy to love everything. It's been a learning experience cutting back on feeling the need to have those things just because they're pretty, but I definitely still do it from time to time! Gorgeous bag too, definitely worth the splurge since you've been loving it forever!

    1. hahaha I won't judge you at all for that ;) I agree about the "she has that, do I need that?!" feeling. I think you do a great job of knowing what works with your style and your closet - I'm always so envious of the beautiful pieces you buy!

      Delete
    2. Haha good! And thanks - it's definitely a constant question though, I have to force myself to really think about items and pass on things I know I wouldn't wear or feel like myself wearing. Sometimes I still make mistakes, sadly, but I think I'm getting better :)

  18. Mmmhmm, dats niiiiice. (said in my most creepy Borat voice)

I love your first photo, it's so crisp and clear. Teach me your photography ways, o wise one. I had almost thought you had went and photshopped it with selective coloring (a la Messi) because you stand out so brightly against the greyish background.

The turquoise and purple go really well together. COPY TIME.

    1. my photography skills: putting the dial on no-flash and hoping the camera focuses on me and not the background haha. I too thought it looked like that selective coloring, so I had to leave a little grass in the background ha. I wouldn't even know how to do that! The grey is just what wisconsin looks like for most of the winter :(

  21. Great shopping doll! I never buy anything full price and usually only shop near the end of season or around holidays because it is all I can afford. I have been talking to a lot of bloggers about envy. I think it is very easy for us bloggers to become envious of one another but we shouldn't. We should love what we have and like you did with your bag plan/save up for the bigger Items we want. I recently donated all of my hoodies, a few scarfs and tops to the Goodwill and to a few friends who I know will make the most of them. So now that they are gone Jason may let me buy 4 hoodies I want off of AE (the 40% off and free shipping help)!

    1. I agree - I think instead of envy we should just be inspired which is what blogging should be about. I hope your friends love their new pieces! I keep a bag near my closet where I put pieces in once I decide they don't work for me - it goes to my little sister and my mom and whatever they don't like goes to Goodwill. It gives the clothes new life, and more room for our closets :)

  22. I've purchased a few things (or lookalikes) of things I've seen on blogs. I also find myself searching for styling ideas for items I'm thinking of buying. This week I spotted a mint cardigan on sale on J.Crew's websites, so I searched blogs and Pinterest for styling ideas before I made my purchase.

I totally get the whole wishing you had other style blogger's items, but I've come to prefer reading blogs of other "real world" girls who have budgets and shop at the same stores I do. That's why your blog has become one of my must reads! :)

  23. I seriously lust over this bag every time I see it - seeing it here is no different! Such a classic bag, definitely adding it to my "holes in my closet" post for the new year!

  24. Ahhh so crazy. I've literally loved that bag from the first moment I saw it on Kendi Everyday, and the obsession has not left. I've been trying to find an under-$40 version of it, but nothing looks quite as nice as the original! It looks like for at least today, things from that site are 30% off plus free shipping, making that bag like $117 or something... SO TEMPTING!!!!!!!!!

  25. I've not yet mastered the button down under a sweater, but it looks great here. I love that bag as well. Perhaps I'll add it to my birthday wish list.

  26. I loved your tip for wearing button shirts under sweaters, and I'm having another issue with this pairing: sleeves. You roll/cuff the sleeves your sweater-shirt combos so nicely, and I was hoping you might have some tips.

In particular, what do you do when the shirt sleeve is pleated to the cuff? When I roll up the sleeves the extra fabric bunches. Help?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Emily! I used to take both completely uncuffed shirts (the button up and the sweater) and then just cuff them together...but that ends up with super thick cuffs around the elbows which is kind of uncomfortable. Now I push up the sweater sleeves up past my elbow without cuffing and then I cuff the button up to where I want it, and then I kind of push the sweater sleeves down to meet the cuff. Does that make sense? Let me know if it doesn't and I'll try to explain it differently!

  27. i know i am way late commenting on this post, but i only just recently started to read your blog and am catching up on archived posts. i definitely buy things i have seen on others' blogs - sometimes they inspire me to buy similar pieces and sometimes it's the exact piece (if possible). my most recent example? i saw a pair of black wedge sneakers at target, and was hesitant to get on board with that trend, until i saw a particular blogger with recurring posts in the same shoes. i snapped them up this week, and am still working out what to wear with them. i think your purchase was a good one - the tote is practical, which is why the original blogger bought it and inspired you!
